Kids BJJ at AK49 Soldotna

If your kid is small for their age, if something has happened at school, if you have ever pictured an older kid grabbing them on a bus, this is the class built for that worry. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not depend on strength or size. A smaller, calmer kid who knows what to do beats a bigger, panicked kid every time. That is not a marketing line, it is how the art was built. At AK49 in Soldotna our Kids BJJ class teaches the fundamentals the right way. Position before submission, posture, base, and the patience to outlast a problem.

There is a second kid this class is for. The one who likes puzzles. The one who watches something twice to figure out how it works. BJJ is the thinking kid's martial art. Every roll is a problem with a hundred solutions. Kids who fall in love with it tend to keep training into their teenage years, which is when the lessons matter most. Coaches are patient, the room is friendly, and the standards are clear. We have parents from Kenai, Sterling, and across the Peninsula who watched their kid grow up on these mats.

Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Why BJJ for Kids

Jiu Jitsu teaches kids that staying calm beats panicking, that a problem can be solved with a clear head, and that being smaller does not mean being helpless. Those lessons sink in deeper than any classroom lecture because the kid lives them on the mat every week. Belts are earned. The standards are honest.

Our Kids BJJ program in Soldotna is the Peninsula's home for serious kids' grappling. Classes meet in the evenings around school schedules. Coaches drill fundamentals, teach respect through how the room runs, and pair kids carefully so everyone is safe and learning. The parents we see most often are the ones who have a quiet fear they cannot quite shake. The smaller-than-average kid. The kid who came home from school looking off and would not say why. The kid the parent wants to be able to handle themselves the way the parent could not. BJJ is built for those conversations. Parents from Kenai, Sterling, Nikiski, and beyond bring kids here for that reason.

What People Say

AK49 Martial Arts is a great place for a healthy workout and a real skill-learning environment. I was nervous when I first started, but the coaches and other kickboxers were quick to make me feel at home. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, which makes such a difference for any newbie. They are very professional and share wise, important life skills along the way. I highly recommend it to anyone, at any age or skill level, who wants to pursue martial arts in a healthy and professional manner.

Coaches are warm hearted and take the time to learn each of the students. Everything that's done is done with heart and pure value in raising a wonderful future of great leaders. The depth of the changes I've seen with the love and guidance with my own children shows up not only in class, but in school and at home. I've never been so impressed and thankful for a class that becomes a part of your life, as well as the wholesome parents you meet. Strongly encourage everyone to enroll. You won't regret it.

Wanted to drop in and train during the summer while away from my normal dojo. AK49 Martial Arts was extremely welcoming. Instructors are top notch and the dojo is clean and spacious. This is a place I'd be happy to train at year round. My daughters enjoyed the children's class as much as I enjoyed the adult class.

This gym is my home away from home. I spend many hours at the gym sharpening my mind and my martial arts. The staff is my martial arts family. Valeda at the desk is amazing and personable. Sensei Seth is a great black belt coach to look up to and has a lot of knowledge to give his students. They and the gym have helped me in many surprising ways along my journey. This is a great place to grow as a person as well as in your martial arts. The coaches are fun and patient. I'm happy I got the courage to walk in there four years ago.

Both my son and myself train here. The coaches are fantastic. They respect you regardless of your skill level, push you to challenge yourself, and take the time to explain the drills in great detail. They give you the tools to become a better version of yourself. We absolutely love training here.

Great place and awesome atmosphere. The coaches really care about the kids both inside the gym and outside of it. Lots of wonderful ideas and philosophy (hard work, being kind, self discipline) are imparted in each and every lesson.

My boys have been doing Jiu Jitsu here with Coach Jason for quite some time. He is very patient with the kids and a great teacher. My boys have learned a lot of skills, self confidence, and self discipline. Classes are fun and instructive, and they always look forward to attending. We couldn't be happier with this program.
